EILEEN
OLSZEWSKI
5-0-1 (0 KOs)
Age: 39
Born: September 17, 1968 in Honolulu, Hawaii
Hometown: New York, New York
WIBA Flyweight Champion
By
boxing standards, Eileen Olszewski is a late bloomer, having captured
her first world title at the tender age of 39. The former New York
Knicks dancer, born in Hawaii as Miyoko Kuwaye, has gone halfway around
the world to New York City to become world champion in only her sixth
pro fight.
A
ballet student who also has done stunt work in movies, Eileen was first
introduced to boxing nearly 20 years ago by her father, but she really
didn’t get into it until meeting her now husband and head trainer,
Matthew, at his New York martial arts studio when she was preparing for
a role as a stunt double.
A
natural from the beginning, albeit her late start, Olszewski went on to
make her mark in amateur boxing, winning three U.S. national
championships, as well as a gold medal at the 2001 Pan-Am Games. She
retired at the age of 35 after registering a 28-0 record in U.S. amateur
competition and 3-4 in International matches.
Olszewski made her pro debut on November 3, 2007, winning a four-round
decision from Kimberly Torres at the Montecello Raceway in New York.
Eileen ripped-off four wins in a row, all by decision, before
challenging WBC flyweight champion Stefania Bianchini (16-2-2) in her
native Italy. Bianchini held here way to a 10-round majority draw
(95-95, 95-59, 93-97) and retained her belt.
Trying
to make up for lost time, Team Olszewski called out WBA flyweight
champion Susi “Killer Queen” Kentikian to no avail. Dismissing any soft
fights, Team Olszewski next targeted WIBA flyweight champion Elena “Baby
Doll” Reid (19-3-5), and they got there wish this past February.
At the
famed Roseland Ballroom in Manhattan, Olszewski out-boxed
counter-punching Reid early, taking Reid’s belt thanks to more effective
punching down the stretch en route to a 10-round decision (98-92, 98-92,
95-95).
